The Lion, the Unicorn, and Me...

Our host, Christy, is the associate technical director at the Washington National Opera.  Before Christy and Jason left on their cruise, Christy arranged for us to see the dress rehearsal of the children's opera "The Lion, the Unicorn, and Me" at the Kennedy Center.  Thursday night, we once again took a city bus to the subway and headed into DC to the Kennedy Center.

We got off the subway at Foggy Bottom and when we stepped outside, we saw a red shuttle bus waiting to take people to the Kennedy Center.  There are five performance areas (both theaters and halls) and there were other shows going on.  We planned to walked to the Tazza Cafe which was across the street from the Kennedy Center.  We had dinner and still had time to explore the Kennedy Center before the show.

Tazza was in this building which was next to the Kennedy Center

We first walked to the back of the center where we could view the Potomac River and the city lights.  Then we walked indoors.  It is a beautiful facility.  We had time to see the Arts and Ideals exhibit on John F. Kennedy.  The Kennedy Center was named in his honor, because of his love of the arts.

It was really cool to find Terrace Theater and then to walk to the entrance to find our name on the list of invited guest to the dress rehearsal.  The Terrace Theater is a small theater and the invited guest were able to walk in and select seat.  The show was really good and it is a great opera to help to get young people interested in opera.

At the end of the show, we caught the shuttle back to the subway and headed back home.
