We did not think there would be a hike on Sunday, because there are local elections. In Kosovo, elections are held on Sunday. Local elections were held on October 12, 2025, but a second round of voting was held on November 9, 2025, in 21 municipalities where no candidate won a majority (50%) of the vote. On October 12th, there was not hike, because of the elections. However, the group decided on a local hike starting at 9 am on Sunday.
At a little before 9 am, we headed to the meeting spot near the old mosque. It had rained in the early morning, but there were only lingering clouds at 9. We met three others for the hike. It was a small group with only five of us. We headed north out of Kaçanik toward Stagova. By 10:30 am, the sun was peaking through the clouds, and I ditched my jacket.
We have done this hike before through the rolling farmland dotted with cows and an occasional horse, but not with the fall colors. It was a beautiful hike. We stopped at a small drink shop, but they didn't have electricity to make coffee. So we had our own coffee, apples, and almonds.
The sun headed behind the clouds as we walked back into Kaçanik. This was the shortest hike we've done, but it was perfect after spending Saturday in Prishtina.
