The Polish participants have asked me why I do Angloville. That is a good question. It is mostly because I enjoy the aspect of meeting the people of other countries, more than going to tourist sights. There are merits to both, but I have met the most interesting people through my Angloville experiences.
Today's schedule started with breakfast at 9 am. Then I had my first mentor session for the participant presentations which will happen on Friday. I am working with Kate (doctor) and Woytek (construction entrepreneur). They are a couple and have more limited speaking skills. Kate played handball in her youth and will do her presentation on handball. Woytek likes to fish and will do his presentation on fishing, Woytek is quite nervous about doing a presentation.
We then had a cultural activity on the United Kingdom that was our entire group of adults and children. It will be interesting to see what our staff does on the United States as none of them are from the US.
I then had two free sessions, as they rotate free sessions for volunteers. I took a walk to a nearby lake for the first free session and then I sat and talked with Ruby who also had a free session. After lunch, Thom and I took a longer walk to see the sandy area at the lake.
The afternoon sessions were a role play about visiting another city and having to ask for directions. After we completed the role play, we talked about traveling. One of the participants, Julieta, did a work study at Six Flags in Illinois and had been to Kenosha, Wisconsin. The other participant during this session, owns a farm with her husband where they grow grain and distill it into vodka.
My second afternoon session was with the other Woytek and with Aga (doctor). Our prompt was to discuss social media which lead into a discussion of AI and the impact of social media on children. It was such a great discussion.
I did have a free session to relax before another buffet dinner. The food has been really good. I do struggle with the biggest meal being a late lunch at 2 pm and finding that I am tired after lunch.
After dinner, we hang around and talk -- a mixture of Polish participants and English speakers. We have so many things to talk about in common and it is one of my favorite times of the day. Unfortunately, the bar closes at 10 pm and you can tell the bar staff are really ready to close down. This seems to be a family business and I sure it is a long day for them.
It is another great day at Angloville.
